Introducing Matt Spahr, LMT

Massage therapist Matthew Spahr is currently setting up his room on the second floor of Thrive! Watch the intro video here. More details, contact info and scheduler are coming soon! Welcome to Matthew. Here is some info on Matt:

Hey there. I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) who has been providing medical and relaxation massages in the greater Cincinnati area since 2011.
With 14+ years of experience, I have worked with all kinds of people and all kinds of bodies.

Some of my specialties include:

  • Deep Tissue
  • Swedish Massage
  • Prenatal Massage
  • TMJ Work
  • Neck and Shoulder Issues

When I’m not massaging, I spend my time drinking tea, meditating, practicing yoga, and watching movies with my partner and our beloved cat, Arabella. I’m a Cincinnati native, born and raised, and while I am ambivalent to sports, I’m enthusiastic about native wildflowers.

I trained at SHI Integrative Medical Massage School, and I’m licensed with the State Medical Board of Ohio.

What to Expect During a Massage with Me

My goal for every massage is to leave you feeling more comfortable in your body.

As we move through the world, the different physical and emotional demands of our lives impact our bodies. Particularly for those of us with neurodivergence, disabilities, or from marginalized backgrounds, feeling at home in our bodies can be a struggle. I became a massage therapist because I believe that massage can be a powerful tool for pain relief, grounding, and healing.

My sessions begin with a brief conversation so I can understand any problems you’re having and get a picture of your typical physical activity. I’ll work with you to identify the root cause of any discomfort, and then customize the experience to fit your needs. During the massage, I take a holistic approach, focusing on the connection between fascia and muscles as well as identifying how pain in one area impacts the whole body.

I understand that getting a massage can feel vulnerable, especially if you are new to massage. I am happy to talk you through my approach in detail, work with you to figure out what feels comfortable, and make adjustments so you can have a truly restorative experience.

Article: Noisy, ‘Popping’ Knees and Joints Not Necessarily Early Signs of Arthritis

This article explains why noisy knees (and other joints) are usually harmless so long as the noise is not painful or uncomfortable, what causes the sound, and how staying active and maintaining joint health can help prevent potential issues over time.

Recipe of the Month: Jack-o-Lantern Stuffed Peppers

A cute and simple Halloween themed meal. You can add in rice or quinoa to this recipe as a sub for the peas and corn – or use them all!

Also, remember this healthy ‘trick’ to reduce the amount of Halloween candy in your house after trick-or-treat. Have your kid(s) select some number of their favorite pieces of candy and then get the rest out of your house by any means necessary! As a trade-in for parting with the candy, we have a small gift or toy or other item for the kids to receive that night.

Otherwise, even with limiting candy consumption to one piece a day, our kids we would be on a sugar spike into the spring of 2026!
