NFL Head Trauma and Chiropractic Care

On a recent broadcast of the Dan Patrick Show, former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon discussed how chiropractic care provided relief from the debilitating pain and memory loss he suffered after retiring from the NFL. McMahon, who helped lead the Chicago Bears to a Superbowl win during the 1985 season, would have days where he could not get out of bed due to pain. He also suffered memory loss so severe he would frequently be unable to find his way home after running errands. At one point, McMahon stated that he was on the verge of suicide, unable to deal with the effects of having so many concussions during his 16 year career.

An MRI found that McMahon’s top two vertebrae were misaligned, causing a blockage of cerebral spinal fluid. After receiving chiropractic treatment, McMahon said his life immediately changed. His constant headache disappeared  and his short-term memory loss is significantly better.  While he accepts he will always have some issues from years of playing football, McMahon says he is able to lead a normal life again with the help of chiropractic care.

More information on McMahon’s story can be found here.
