Study:  Calcium Intake and Mineral Bone Density: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

A study recently published in the British Medical Journal looked at the results of calcium intake of women over 50 and levels of bone mineral density (BMD). The results found that increased calcium, either through dietary means or supplements, only produces a small, non-progressive increase in BMD.

Unfortunately, this increase does not decrease the risk of bone fractures. At this time, it appears that strength training and weight bearing exercise is our best bet to improve health and reduce injury risk.

Taking Care of Your Hip Flexors

Many of you remember movement coach Chandler Stevens from his posture class he taught at Thrive last year. In this short video he shares his favorite way to stretch tight hip flexors.  His method may surprise you. Remember stretching has it’s place, but we cannot ‘outstretch’ sedentary lifestyles.

Recipe of the Month: Anti-Inflammatory Coconut Milk

As the weather gets colder, a warm comfort drink can help beat the winter chill.  However, drinks like chai lattes and hot chocolate have sugary ingredients that don’t provide your body with the optimum fuel it needs. This great tasting Anti-Inflammatory Milk from Dr. Jockers is made with coconut milk and turmeric, and this drink is a healthy replacement for those warm and sugary comfort drinks.
