Check out our New MyoVision Technology on Monday, Nov. 12th at 7:15 PM – Health Class @ Oakley Office

We are very excited about recently adding a new technology at the practice. MyoVision is surface EMG measuring equipment, which measures electrical activity in the muscles along your spine. The MyoVision scan allows us to evaluate how well your body is working on the inside. The information from the scan is a tool that shows how your nerve system is functioning. The scan takes 90 seconds and is  safe, painless, and a non-invasive procedure.

Join us on Monday, November 12th from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM at Revolution Fitness in the Spinning Room for this complimentary class. We will discuss the details of the technology, show a demo, and give everyone an opportunity to receive a scan at the end of the class.  

During the class, we will also discuss typical signs and symptoms of nerve system interference (subluxation) and the best action steps you can take to keep a healthy, optimally functioning nervous system.

Reminder: Use Your Health Benefits Before the End of the Year

With Halloween behind us, the end of the year is quickly approaching. The majority of insurance plans are based on a calendar year, which means 2012 annual benefits will expire December 31st. Call to schedule an appointment for yourself and any eligible family members to utilize your chiropractic benefits in your plan.

If you have a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account, you may also use these funds for chiropractic services, supplements or products at the office.

8 Reasons Why Butter is Better. Pitch the Margarine!

Despite what you may have heard, butter is far superior to margarine. Butter is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and cholesterol. The best butter contains healthy fatty acids and a balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats. Other ingredients in butter can help prevent stiffness in joints, provide protection against cancer, and protect the stomach from gastrointestinal infections.

Margarine, on the other hand, is made from assorted vegetable oils that have been heated to extremely high temperatures. The oil then becomes rancid, after which a nickel (a toxic heavy metal) catalyst is added. During the solidification process, trans-fatty acids are created, which are both carcinogenic and mutagenic. Here are the top 8 reasons to throw out your margarine, and go with butter!
Remember, raw and cultured butter is the best option. If this is hard to find, organic is your next best choice.

Recipe of the Month: Pumpkin Soup

Large, woody pumpkins are perfect for jack-o’-lanterns; save the tender little ones for this savory soup, a well-deserved treat after a chilly leaf-raking session. This classic and simple pumpkin soup from Paleo Diet Lifestyle makes use of delicious pumpkin, sweet potatoes, fresh stock and a bit of coconut milk or heavy cream.


2 tbsp butter or coconut oil
1 chopped onion
1 minced garlic clove
1.5 lb pumpkin flesh, chopped roughly
2 medium peeled and roughly chopped sweet potatoes
4 cups chicken or beef stock
1 cup coconut milk or heavy cream


1. Heat a large pot, melt the cooking oil and cook the onion until soft. Add the garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
2. Add the chopped pumpkin and sweet potatoes and cook for several minutes.
3. Add the stock, season with salt and pepper, bring to a boil and let simmer for about 25 minutes, until the flesh of the pumpkin and sweet potatoes is tender.
4. Stir the coconut milk or cream in and use your blender to blend, in batch, to the consistency of a purée.
5. If necessary, put the soup back in the pot to reheat before serving.
6. A dash of nutmeg and cinnamon are nice spices to use in this soup of you have them on hand.
7. Serve with an extra dash of coconut milk or cream swirled on top of each bowl.

A Pretty Good Prescription…

I like this advice. I would also add, “Make sure you are getting to bed before 10:30 PM, eating plenty of healthy fats and oils (butter, coconut, olive, etc.), choosing excellent protein sources (pastured poultry, grass-fed beef, fish, eggs, etc.), and making sure your nerve system is functioning optimally by getting adjustments at the chiropractor.”
