Chiropractic for Kids: Watch this Video of James, age 3, getting Adjusted with Pete

James adjustment 2What!? Why would children need chiropractic care, you ask? Remember chiropractic is all about our nervous system functioning optimally. We all live our lives through our nerve systems. Kids have spines and nerve systems too!

Physical, chemical, and mental/emotional stress creates pressure and interference along the spine and nerve system. We call this subluxation. Chiropractic adjustments restore proper balance and function to the body.

While kids don't have the same exact stressors as adults, they still have stress. Do you think learning to walk creates physical stresses? How about the birth process itself? Children deal with mental/emotional stress as they progress through the school years.

The video shows Pete adjusting three-year old James. On top of insuring optimal nerve system function, here are some of the more common specific conditions that I have helped kids improve with chiropractic:

  • Recurring ear infections, torticollis, colic, attention/behavioral issues, constipation, sports/play injuries

Let us know if you have any questions about kids and chiropractic. We do offer family plans to make care affordable for kids and adults. Adjustment fees for kids are 1/2 the adult fee.

Thermography Screenings for Breast Health Evaluations
thermography
Many women are choosing to utilize thermography to evaluate breast health and screen for potential changes that could indicate breast cancer. Dr. Mercola's article discusses the benefits of thermography screening versus mammograms.

Does Fish Oil Supplementation Really Cause Prostate Cancer?

A recent study claimed that fish oil supplementation causes a 71% increased risk of prostate cancer. This study had some major flaws, but it still drew tons of attention in the media over the past few weeks. Despite this study, you should know that I continue to use fish oil myself, recommend it for family and friends, and have it available in the office for sale.

FishIn this study in question, causation was not established, dietary intake was not evaluated, plus previous investigations showed fish oil to have a positive effect on prostate cancer. Many folks have weighed in on why omega 3 supplementation with fish oil is safe and effective to dispute this study:

appendix
What is the function of your Appendix?

The appendix is often thought to be a vestigial organ, that is, an organ that we have evolved to no longer utilize or need. Perhaps, or maybe we just have not discovered its usefulness.

Some researchers now believe the appendix acts as a safe house for good bacteria, which can be used to effectively reboot the gut following a bout of dysentery or cholera.

Recipe of the Month: Smashed Steak Skewers With Cherry Barbecue Sauce

Here's an easy and delicious recipe well-suited for summer grilling or year-round broiling from a great online recipe resource, NomNomPaleo.com.

Supplies

You will need: small saucepan, 16 presoaked bamboo skewers, meat tenderizer, preheated grill or broiler.

Ingredients

For the Cherry Barbecue Sauce (Makes 1⅔ cup of sauce):skewers

  • 2 teaspoons ghee or fat of choice
  • ½ cup minced shallot
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 (1-inch piece) ginger root, peeled and finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ¼ cup coconut aminos (or wheat-free tamari)
  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup apple juice
  • 10 ounces frozen cherries, roughly chopped
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste

For the Smashed Steak Skewers:

  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 1½-pounds flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons melted ghee
  • ¼ cup scallions, thinly sliced (optional)

Instructions: Cherry Barbecue Sauce

The cherry barbecue sauce is a cinch to make and can be prepared ahead of time.
First, melt the ghee over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add the shallots and a pinch of salt and sauté until translucent (around 5 minutes).
Stir in the garlic, ginger, and tomato paste and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the coconut aminos, balsamic vinegar, juice, and cherries and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until the cherry mixture is thickened.
While the sauce is simmering, stir occasionally and smush the cherries against the side of the pot.
Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer the sauce to a bowl or measuring cup and set aside.

Instructions: Steak Skewers

A half hour before you want to grill your skewers, soak 16 bamboo skewers in water.
Grab your slab of flank steak and cut it into 16 pieces. First, cut the steak in half lengthwise (along the grain). Next, slice the steak in half across the grain, then in fourths and finally in eighths.
Carefully stab each slice of meat through the center with a soaked skewer.
Now comes the fun part: Grab a hefty meat pounder or small cast iron skillet, and smash each steak skewer until it’s about ½ inch thick.
Season the beef with salt and pepper and brush both sides with melted ghee.
Fire up your grill, and cook over high heat for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Let the meat skewers rest for 5 to 10 minutes before brushing on the cherry barbecue sauce.
A garnish of fresh green scallions is optional, but it can instantly transform this rugged plate of skewers into a more refined dish.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone for your well-wishes on my recent marriage. My lovely wife, Dina, and I  appreciate your kind words.
