Broth: A Secret Nutritional Superfood



Stock or broth is made from bones of chicken, fish or beef. Stock contains minerals in a form the body can absorb easily—not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur, and trace minerals. It contains the broken down material from cartilage and tendons–components such as chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine, now sold as supplements for arthritis and joint pain. The nutrients in broth are also excellent for healing and maintaining a strong digestive system.

Staggering Statistics on Our Lack of Sleep



Dr. Kirk Parsley's TED talk on sleep is an excellent resource to help us understand the far reaching health problems that sleep deprivation creates.

Did you know that Americans average 6.5 hours of sleep per night? This is 20% less sleep than only 30 years ago! Dr. Parsley emphasizes that changes to diet and exercise will be futile unless we address our biggest individual and collective health issue.

This newsletter from a practitioner in New Zealand has some good info on improving your sleep quality.


Higher C-Section Rates Are Alarming



Consumer Reports released findings earlier this year that showed alarmingly high incidences of c-sections. While at times a necessity for the mother or baby, the high rates "are unsupportable by professional guidelines and studies of birth outcomes," said Dr. Elliot Main.


Recipe of the Month: Raspberry Ginger Lemonade
